According to the Express, their first move will be to try and bring in Real Madrid superstar Marco Asensio.

The 20-year-old has attracted significant interest from the top teams around Europe after a series of impressive displays for the Madrid giants, including a sensational brace in Madrid’s 2-2 draw with Valencia.

Arsenal were said to be readying a bid of approximately £78m for the star, but Spanish journalist Guillem Balague rubbished the rumours, tweeting: “On Asensio and Arsenal. No chance of it happening. The buy out clause is higher than £78m, but confidential (Real says is ‘dissuasive’).

“More importantly, Asensio has got not intention of leaving Real Madrid at all. He’ll renew his contract soon. Arsenal know it.

“Arsenal was in touch with Asensio before he signed for Real Madrid. His agent played with Arsenal till the Real offer materialised.”

Meanwhile, the Mirror allege that Arsenal would prefer to sell contract rebel Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Chelsea rather than Liverpool.

The report suggests that Wenger sees Chelsea as title challengers, with or without Chamberlain, while the Frenchman believes the Reds will struggle to balance domestic and European football, and is against the idea of directly strengthening them.

Chelsea are purportedly willing to pay £40m for the Englishman’s services, and will match the £180,000-a-week contract offer that the 24-year old supposedly rejected in the past week.

In more troubling news for Gunners fans, Manchester City are said to be readying an offer of £70m, plus Belgian defender Jason Denayer for Alexis Sanchez,as the transfer deadline edges ever closer.

The Daily Star had reported that the star Chilean demanded a whopping £400,000-a-week to sign an extension with the London club, and the outlet now claim that it’s looking increasingly likely that Wenger will reluctantly sell.

Sanchez was withdrawn an hour into Liverpool’s demolition job, and cut a frustrated figure as he watched on from the bench.

Elsewhere, Liverpool and Tottenham are understood to be looking into the possibility of signing Arsenal target Thomas Lemar.

According to the Telegraph, Liverpool made the enquiry for the 21-year old earlier in the summer, but remain active in their pursuit, while Spurs have also discussed the winger as an attacking option.

Monaco remain intent on keeping their star after already allowing the majority of their core talent to leave earlier in the window, with Arsenal’s most recent bid of £45m rejected.

And finally, Arsenal youngster Jeff Reine-Adelaide is said to be a loan target for Championship side Bolton Wanderers.

The French Under-19 international made six first-team appearances for Arsenal last season and Wenger is reportedly keen to get the midfielder some consistent minutes this season.

According to the Daily Mail, Ligue 1 side Nantes have also asked about the prodigious talent.
